Mångata (MOON-gah-tah) is a Swedish word for the way moonlight reflected on water creates the image of a path. Like the moon on water, our own reflections on experiences creates a new path. Mangata Wellness was conceived as an organization to embody sound clinical practice, innovative research, and grounded compassion upon which our clients can reflect and clarify their own new path.
Mangata Wellness is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that exists to provide individual outpatient mental health therapy, primary care and other wellness activities (e.g., psychological assessment, group therapy, yoga) to the community. Mangata Wellness aims to provide ethical and compassionate care to anyone in the Willamette Valley, regardless of ability to pay. Our services are particularly focused on supporting marginalized groups, such as the LGBTQIA+ community, who have historically been excluded from health care spaces. We also focus on expanding mental health research and providing culturally-responsive care.
Compassion
Mangata Wellness provides services that are connected, grounded, and primarily driven by a desire to best understand without judgment. We believe that good clinical work is only possible within a framework of empathy and non-judgment.
Hope
Clinical services and research endeavors are ultimately aimed toward finding compassion and continuing to engage even when there has been profound hurt. Trauma often tells us the future is closed; with our work we intend to assist others in finding their path.
Integrity
Clinical practice is founded on trust, and worthy trust necessarily requires consistent honesty and adherence to ethics. Our team commits to the highest standards of ethics and the role of compassionate honesty in our interactions. We aim to be accountable both to ourselves and others.
Diversity
Mangata Wellness holds that no one perspective or approach provides an answer, but that only through the active engagement in and respect for differences in background, lived experience, goals, and context can people grow to their potential. In adopting anti-racist values, we also task ourselves with examination of bias and internalized white supremacy constructs that hinder human health.
Empowerment
We trust that human beings are capable of knowing and making decisions in their own best interest, and that our role is to offer support and intentional presence alongside those on their own path. We aim to use our own contacts with privilege to advocate, address barriers, and explore how internalized systems of power may be acting against each person’s best interests.
Mangata Wellness offers psychotherapy services including individual therapy, couples and family counseling, group therapy, and psychological assessments. In additional to licensed clinicians offering services, Mangata Wellness is also a training agency for experienced individuals who are in the process of completing their education and clinical hours. Our graduate clinicians provide sliding scale and low cost services to the community while operating under licensed supervision.
We also offer direct primary care services, with special availability to those seeking gender affirming primary care.
